UK Domestic Worker Visa Overview

The UK Domestic Worker Visa, officially the Overseas Domestic Worker visa and commonly known as the UK maid visa, allows a domestic worker in a private household - such as a maid, nanny, housekeeper, cook, chauffeur or carer - to accompany their employer to the United Kingdom and continue their existing employment for up to 6 months. It is intended for employers who are visiting the UK for less than 6 months and wish to bring their household staff with them. To qualify, the worker must be aged 19 or over, live outside the UK, have worked for the same employer for at least 12 months immediately before applying, work in the same household as the employer, and travel to the UK together with the employer (or the employer's spouse, partner or child). The employer must be a British national who usually lives outside the UK, or a foreign national visiting the UK, and must not intend to stay more than 6 months. The visa allows the worker to work for that employer and gives them UK employment protections; it cannot be extended, does not lead to settlement, and does not allow dependants to accompany the worker. Applications are made online and require an in-person biometrics appointment at a UK visa application centre (VFS Global) in Dubai.
